Luisa Montalvo – When a World Champion Evaluates District 17’s Best

What happens when four District 17 champions put their humorous speeches in front of a World Champion? Members at Willetton Toastmasters found out on Monday, 21 September, in a very special evaluation meeting featuring Luisa Montalvo, 2024 Toastmasters World Champion of Public Speaking.

Luisa evaluated four humorous speeches delivered by District 17 champions Sue Fielding, David Arkell, Wendell Pether and Monica Malaga—a remarkable lineup of speakers bringing their own stories, styles and humour to the stage.

But this was more than an evening of great speeches. It was a rare opportunity to hear directly from one of the world’s leading public speaking champions. Luisa shared practical insights and advice drawn from her own experience, giving members plenty to think about and take back to their club meetings.

The evening was especially meaningful for our Spanish-speaking community. Luisa connected with members in Spanish and was celebrated for her achievement as a Latina woman reaching the pinnacle of Toastmasters’ International Speech Contest.
