District Council Charts the Course for 2026-2027
District 17 Council Meeting: Setting the Course for 2026-2027
What happens when District 17 leaders gather to shape an entire Toastmasters year? The first District 17 Council Meeting for 2026–2027, held online on 19 September, brought club and District leaders together to make decisions that will shape the year ahead.
With a quorum achieved and strong participation across Western Australia, Council approved several important motions, including the 2026–2027 District Budget and the appointment of District officers. It also approved provisions allowing fully remote and partially remote District leaders, creating greater flexibility for members living outside the metropolitan area.

Other decisions focused on recognition and member achievement. Council aligned the Triple Crown Award criteria with Toastmasters International standards and changed the Outstanding Toastmaster of the Year Award so that it becomes a once-in-a-lifetime recognition, opening the opportunity to recognise more deserving members over time.
Reports from the District Trio highlighted priorities for 2026–2027: improving club quality, supporting membership growth, strengthening public relations and ensuring every club has a Club Success Plan.
There is plenty more ahead. District 17 reported 98% participation in the World Cup Challenge and shared plans for Speak Connect Lead and the Big Open House on 13 October. Northern Division also announced progress on the new Rising Leaders club for 18–25-year-olds, while Central and Southern Divisions shared plans for prospective clubs and a fundraising Quiz Night.
The meeting closed with a clear message: the magic of Toastmasters happens at club level. The challenge for all of us is to create meeting experiences that remind members—and show prospective members—why belonging to Toastmasters matters.
