District 17 Celebrates our New DTM!

District 17 proudly congratulates Ange Booker on achieving the Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) award — the highest educational recognition in Toastmasters. This milestone reflects sustained commitment to communication, leadership, service and learning, but for [Your Name], reaching DTM has prompted a slightly different reflection: achievement is not the end of the journey, but an invitation to keep growing.

At the 2026 Toastmasters International Convention, she met a Toastmaster who was progressing towards his DTM very slowly because he wanted every speech to reach his own high standard before moving on. It reminded her of learning piano, when her teacher would sometimes close the book and say it was time to move on, even though the piece was not perfect. The lesson stayed with her: moving on does not mean you have mastered something; it means you are ready to keep learning. Years later, when she almost sold her grand piano because she felt she was not a good enough player to own it, a dealer asked why the piano should reflect the player she was then, rather than the player she hoped to become. Perhaps achievement works the same way.

Now, with DTM achieved and another Pathway already underway, the learning continues. Three years ago, her semifinal speech at the Toastmasters International Convention asked, “Are We There Yet?” Her answer is still no — but she is somewhere new. District 17 warmly congratulates Ange Booker, DTM, on this significant achievement and on continuing to grow into the speaker and leader she has yet to become.
