Sandgropers Turns 50!
On 11 May, I had the absolute pleasure of joining Sandgroper Toastmasters as the club celebrated an incredible milestone, the club’s 50th Charter Anniversary.

As the second oldest Toastmasters club in Western Australia, Sandgroper has built a remarkable legacy over five decades, helping countless people grow in confidence, communication and leadership.
The evening was filled with outstanding speeches and heartfelt reflections from members who have shaped the club’s history and culture over many years.

Vince, who has been part of the club since 1989, shared his journey through Toastmasters and the lasting impact the organisation has had on his life. His contribution to the club over so many years is truly remarkable.
Madeline, who joined not long after Vince, reflected on how her love of public speaking through Toastmasters led her to build a career in communication. Thankfully for all of us, she continues to share her knowledge, encouragement and expertise with members today.

Long-term member Eddy spoke about the resilience of Sandgroper Toastmasters, particularly through challenging periods such as COVID-19, and the determination of members to ensure the club continued to move forward.
We were also honoured to welcome Maree Pickens, Program Quality Director for Toastmasters, who congratulated the club on its achievement and presented several wonderful gifts to commemorate the occasion. Maree’s presentation was engaging, polished and inspiring, a reminder of the incredible talent within our Toastmasters community.

Desmond Miranda, Club Growth Director for District 17, also recognised the strength, longevity and ongoing commitment of Sandgroper Toastmasters.
What stood out most throughout the evening was the sense of community. Toastmasters is so much more than learning how to speak in public. It is a supportive and welcoming environment where people are encouraged to challenge themselves, grow in confidence, develop leadership skills and build lifelong friendships.

To spend the evening surrounded by such knowledgeable, generous and inspiring people was truly special.
Congratulations to Sandgroper Toastmasters on 50 extraordinary years, and here’s to many more to come.
