Containers for Change
Fremantle Gateway Toastmasters has found a simple yet effective way to turn everyday recycling into meaningful fundraising through the Containers for Change program. By signing up for a member code, the club has created an easy system that allows members to contribute to club funds while doing something they already do—returning eligible bottles and cans for the 10-cent refund.

The process is straightforward. The club’s unique member code is printed on its agenda, making it easily accessible to all members. Whenever members visit a Containers for Change refund point, they simply use this code and the refund is automatically directed into the club’s account instead of being collected individually. It’s a small action that, when multiplied across the membership, quickly adds up.
The results have already been encouraging. To date, the club has raised over $190, a figure they proudly track and share in their agenda. Beyond the financial benefit, the initiative also promotes environmentally responsible habits, reinforcing the importance of recycling within the community.

What makes this initiative particularly appealing is its simplicity and accessibility. There are no extra events to organise, no additional costs and no pressure on members—just a convenient way to contribute whenever they recycle.
Fremantle Gateway Toastmaster Club’s approach highlights how small, consistent efforts can generate real impact. It also serves as a great example for other clubs and community groups looking for easy fundraising ideas. With minimal setup and ongoing participation any club can adopt this model and start turning recyclables into resources.
