Club Roles – General Evaluator
In Toastmasters, the role of the General Evaluator is pivotal in providing constructive feedback to the club members who fulfil various roles during meetings. As a General Evaluator, your primary responsibility is to assess the performance of the Sergeant at Arms, Toastmaster, Table Topics Master, Grammarian, Harkmaster, Timer and speech evaluators. Focus on specific aspects of their performances rather than recapping their content. For instance, if the Toastmaster maintained a lively atmosphere but struggled with transitioning between segments, note that down as a point of feedback.
Once you have compiled your observations, refine your notes into concise commendations and recommendations. Aim for one or two key points for each role. For example, if the Timer was effective in signalling time but could improve by giving clearer warnings, articulate that clearly. This focused approach allows you to deliver feedback that is digestible and actionable.

When it’s time to present your evaluation, do so with enthusiasm and clarity. Use an authentic tone that encourages your audience to embrace your feedback. Begin with a brief overview of the roles evaluated and then transition into each specific evaluation. For instance, when discussing the Grammarian, you might state, “You did an excellent job highlighting the word of the day; however, incorporating more examples of its use in sentences could further enhance understanding.”

Sergeant At Arms: Commend their ability to set the room up efficiently. Recommend they practice greeting members with a warm, welcoming demeanour to foster a more inviting atmosphere.
Toastmaster: Highlight their energy and ability to engage the audience. Suggest they work on smoother transitions between segments to maintain the flow of the meeting.
Table Topics Master: Praise their creativity in selecting topics. Recommend providing clearer instructions for responses, perhaps by offering examples or explain the time limit for each participant.
Grammarian: Commend their choice of the word of the day and how it was integrated into the meeting. Suggest they offer more comprehensive feedback on grammatical usage throughout the meeting for added value.
