Carpathian Toastmasters: Making History Together
On 13 August 2026, Carpathian Toastmasters Club made history by holding its very first Humorous Speech and Table Topics Contests. With the theme “Making History Together,” the evening celebrated courage, creativity and the willingness to step outside our comfort zones.

What made the night memorable was seeing 13 members participate — all new to Toastmasters. Some were only beginning their Pathways journey, yet they prepared, stepped up and gave something new a try. Every speech brought a different personality and story, proving there is no perfect time to begin finding your voice.
In the Humorous Speech Contest, Radu Alecsa took first place with “The Runaway Toddler,” entertaining the audience from beginning to end. Emil Pomana delivered a standout performance with “Does It Really Move the Universe?”, taking listeners on an unexpected journey filled with imagination and personality.

The Table Topics Contest presented a different challenge: contestants received an unseen question and had to gather their thoughts and speak. Ileana Wright particularly impressed with her ability to think on her feet, connect with the audience and communicate confidently.

While we celebrated the official results, the greatest achievement was seeing 13 new Toastmasters say yes. They prepared, participated, laughed, supported one another and discovered what they could do beyond their comfort zones.

Members who had planned to participate but could not attend deserve recognition. Their journey began with the courage to say yes and prepare for the opportunity.
The evening also welcomed guests and Toastmasters from other clubs, creating an atmosphere of encouragement and connection. For this young club, the first contests were more than competitions: they were another chapter in a growing community bringing together people from Romania, Eastern Europe and beyond.
Carpathian Toastmasters has now written its first contest into its story — and there are many more chapters to come together.
