Victoria Park Celebrating 500th Meeting

Victoria Park Toastmasters marked a momentous occasion on the 19th August, their 500th meeting. The theme for the night was “Celebration and Success “. Our club members, past members and distinguished guests were amongst our vibrant tribe. Handmade memento bookmarks, crafted by our Secretary, Karen Passamani were presented to our guests.

The evening kicked off with Mariela Calizaya, as Sergeant at Arms, followed by an enthusiastic introduction by our Toastmaster, Jagan Rama Sendren. Mariana Paliu, our President, then officially launched our club’s inspiring vision. One of the highlights of the evening was Keith Green’s speech about the history of the club, as he recounted the challenges and triumphs that shaped its success. Eugene Lim then took the reins for the 500th Meeting Table Topics, where he engaged the audience with thought-provoking questions. There was a surprise cake cutting segment. Everyone indulged in snacks which were lovingly prepared by the members. This was a great opportunity for everyone to connect and celebrate.

As the evening progressed, Gregory Zetty took the stage and presented the Toastmaster of the Year award to Sawan Tanna and the Best Table Topics award to Mariana Paliu. Harshita Angarey recognised the exceptional contributions of our members over the past year with appreciation awards. These well-deserved awards highlighted their dedication and perseverance. To conclude the meeting, Tim Blackburn and Sam Craig shared their stories of success in their Toastmasters journey. A group photo captured the joy and camaraderie of the night, making this 500th meeting a memorable milestone in the history of Victoria Park Toastmasters.

St Georges Toastmasters
St Georges Toastmasters was thrilled to support the Rotary 4-Way Test speaking competition at Perth Modern High School on Tues 30 July – it was a showcase of young talent tasked with skilfully integrating the Rotary 4-Way test into a subject of their choosing, before delivering it in a captivating speech.
The test consists of four simple questions that Rotarians use to assess the things they think, say, or do:
1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
These questions serve as a moral compass for Rotarians and become essential criteria that contestants must incorporate into their speeches.
The recent competition held at Perth Modern High School exemplifies Rotary’s dedication to fostering and developing public speaking and leadership abilities in young individuals. The event provided a platform for Year 10 students to showcase their remarkable talents.
The contestants engaged the audience and judges with thought-provoking topics including standing up to bullying, caring for people with dementia and embracing diversity, weaving masterful storytelling with exceptional delivery. The difficulty in selecting a winner speaks volumes about the contestants’ abilities to engage and inspire.
A special thanks to judges Maree Pickens and Phillippa Henderson from St George’s Toastmasters, and to David Mussara, a Rotarian and a Toastmaster from St Georges for organising this event. The commitment they show towards developing the public speaking abilities of young individuals is commendable.
