Empowering Voices: A Successful Speechcraft Course in Canning Vale
Over four engaging weeks, I had the pleasure of conducting a Speechcraft course at the Sikh Gurdwara training room in Canning Vale, supported by my dedicated Toastmasters colleagues Judith Allen, Murray Rogers, Chris Houston, and Maree Pickens. Our goal was to equip participants—primarily members of the local Sikh community—with the skills and confidence to express themselves clearly and effectively.
Sikhism places a strong emphasis on learning and personal growth, making the Gurdwara a fitting venue for such a transformative program. In addition to Sikh participants, we welcomed four non-members who brought their own perspectives and enthusiasm to the group.
The sessions combined foundational public speaking techniques with supportive feedback, helping participants grow in confidence with each passing week. From icebreakers to impromptu speaking and prepared speeches, it was inspiring to witness each individual’s journey.
We’re proud to say the course has already yielded promising results. Out of the one in three participants who expressed interest in joining a Toastmasters club, one has already taken the leap and become a member—a testament to the course’s impact.
This initiative reflects the power of collaboration and community. We hope to continue bridging cultures through the shared goal of effective communication.
