So much has taken place at the District 17 Convention, “City of Dreams” held at the Four Points by Sheraton Perth at the end of May over a very busy and enjoyable weekend. Here was decided the winners of the International Speech Contest, Table Topics Contest, Evaluation Contest and the Humorous Speech Contest, the results are detailed in Leonor’s article.
Read all about the winners of the Positive Promotion Premiership and the Marvellous Membership Campaign for this year. Leonor tells us about three more Toastmasters receiving their DTMs this year. These, together with the other seven who had received their DTMs earlier, were given their awards by District Director, Ian Pickens at the colourful Dinner Dance on the 28th May.
Kind regards

District Director’s Report
WOW! What an extraordinary month May is.
District convention is always the event of the year and this year matched all the previous years.
Congratulations to all our contestants, the contests were fabulous, you should be so proud of your achievements regardless of win or loss.
Leonor and City of Perth Toastmaster club team presented an amazing weekend.
Mark Brown captivated us with some wisdom, and excitement all weekend. I really enjoyed a lot of what Mark delivered.
Start your planning, save your money, whatever you need to do, to ensure you are at the Trade Winds in Fremantle in 2017. I am sure Fremantle Gateway and Victoria Quay will deliver great opportunities for you. Don’t miss next year because you failed to plan, or allocate the weekend to your self development.
Congratulations to the new district team led by Leonor. It was wonderful to have votes for leadership positions. It really expresses to me the maturity of the district with multiple leaders seeing the value and desire to be part of the district leadership team. I am looking forward to their guidance during the next 12 months and encourage you to be supportive and active in district programs.
This now, is again the last minute as club leaders realise their dreams to make their club distinguished. Many clubs need members and a few some educational awards to meet the targets. Support your club and offer them the opportunity to realise the club success plan.
Training of club officers is a vital component of club success. Training starts in June ensure your club is up to date with member management by insisting your leaders attend training.
Have you fulfilled your dreams for this year? Have you ensured you worked to make it happen? If you can dream it and believe it. If your work to achieve it you can do it.
What happened to your dream? Did you capture the power of your dreams, did you let an opportunity pass by? What is the consequence of not fulfilling it and realising the opportunity your dream offered.
I encourage you to continue to dream and make your dreams a reality.

Positive Promotion Premiership Competition
The Positive Promotion Premiership came to an exhilarating climax this month, with the winner being announced at the Toastmasters International District 17 2016 “City of Dreams” convention at the Four Points by Sheraton the last weekend of May.
Many clubs regularly contributed their promotional efforts to the Premiership throughout the year. Through website updates, social media postings and club newsletters.
Many clubs went beyond their venue and participated in Community Workshops such as the Youth Out Loud organised in conjunction with the City of Swan; setting up a stall at the Beaufort Street Fair; and helping a school celebrate their 60th anniversary.
Some of our members wrote articles to local papers, spoke about Toastmasters on the radio, and some were even featured in the Toastmaster magazine.
Congratulations to all clubs for their fantastic efforts throughout the year. Unfortunately, there can only be one winner.
Congratulations to Canning Vale for winning the PPP trophy for the second time since its inception.
Check out the final table here.
We also awarded a trophy to the Best Newsletter of the Year at the convention.
This year, many clubs submitted their newsletters for the contest. Many clubs produced interesting newsletters; the judges were happy to see clubs embracing new distribution technologies such as Mail Chimp. But the best newsletter was produced, and the trophy awarded to Speak, from Shell Australia Toastmasters.
Congratulations Canning Vale and Shell Australia Toastmasters.
